Question #2

Blue had made a long roll to #2, but unfortunately for him Yellow got stuck in the wicket and the break could not continue. Blue then hit back through the dead ball Black (an attempted "saving shot") to the east border.

Red and Black are for 4-back, Yellow is for #4 and Blue of course is still for #2

How would you advise Red/Yellow to proceed?

Danny Huneycutt's Gravatar Y take the wiring lift shot from b-baulk at red

Danny Huneycutt's Gravatar Another option would be to save Yellow's wiring lift for another turn by playing red to a baulk line or red roquet black to position the opponent balls more strategically before moving to a baul line. Typically I would try to take immediate advantage by lifting yellow to b-baulk and take the shot at red to run my break without giving my opponent a chance of hitting the shortish shot at each other.

chris clarke's Gravatar If you are a really bad shot and your oppo is also a bad shot, you can play R to a yard E of C1 or a yard S of C3. However, for most players, the short double target offered by taking the lift with Y from B-Baulk is compulsory, particularly given the easy break opportunity it generates.

chris clarke's Gravatar If you really don't want to take your short double, R could shoot at K. If it misses, it is not much worse that just out of C1 or C3, if it hits, it should have a chance to cross-wire oppo at hoop 4 and play a yard S of C3. Still prefer taking the immediate double and easy break though

chris clarke's Gravatar I don't understand why U shot back at K with its last shot if K was a dead ball. The only thing that is likely to happen here if it hits is that U or K will bounce towards A-baulk giving Y an easy start. Surely U to C2 is better?

anonymous's Gravatar Yellow takes lift from B baulk for shortest shot at red. Put red as a pioneer for 5 while getting a rush on black to blue. Rush blue to 4 and proceed with 4 ball break.
